The Rainbow Bridge
By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.
For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.
No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.
They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.
For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.
I’m a wolf-like regal creation
A born transportation pro
Pulling sleds as far as they can go.
I’m delightfully furry, double-coated
A yearlong shedding machine
Hair here, there, everywhere.
High energy, mischievous, playful I am
Digging and escaping
So, catch me if you can!
Howling NOT barking, my delight
Watchdog, I’ll never be
Thieves will always go free!
Yet, gentle, friendly
a children’s delight.
My creator fashioned
Piercing blue or brown eyes
Creatively atterned fur
Pointed ears, furry curled tail
A knock out sight.
If you choose me,
I’ll be your faithful companion
Miracle with paws
Siberian Husky delight!

Spirit (formerly Keiko)
This letter and Husky greeting card, comes to you in honor of our gorgeous, beloved blue-eyed Husky/Spirit, who we sent to his “Forever resting home,” one month ago today. I created & composed this greeting card last year, never intending for it to become Spirit’s memorial card. But now, at this juncture point, one month later, it seemed a way for us to honor his 7 year, spirited earthly loving companionship with us, as well as to attempt to shed some closure to our broken hearts, in the fact that he no longer graces our home. No longer do I witness the shedding of his furry hair in every corner of our home, as I routinely vacuum, or try to successfully groom him without his resistance to the brush, nor feel his insistent loving nose touching and nuzzling me at his daily feeding times or nuzzling me to rise… as my morning daily alarm clock! No longer do I hear his howling at the patio door, seeking entrance after his sun bathing, believe it or not, sidewalk snoozes, digging or playful outbursts of silly Husky antics. My routine daily walks with Spirit have ceased & no longer do I hear the familiar shouts from the car windows of folks driving by, commenting, “What a BEAUTIFUL Husky dog!”, or the local school kids waiting for school bus pick up at the corner, as they excitedly smile, greet & pet Spirit, God’s handsome creature! As Huskies are prone to escaping if an opportunity arises, Spirit did so, but thankfully & fortunately, each time we were reunited with him. Spirit, a pedigree Husky, originally named, Keiko-Silly Bob, whelped in my home state of Illinois, was adopted by us, thru the Siberian Husky Rescue of New Mexico, Inc. & had currently been fostered at the home of Tracey, a devoted foster Husky mom! We chose to rename him, Spirit, & every moment, he lived up to his signature renaming, by flavoring our home & lives with his sweet, loving & independent nature. Spirit is now gleefully romping together in their heavenly home, with our former Huskies, Glasher, & Natasha. We thank our creator for fashioning all dogs, especially the wolf-like regal, HUSKY! AMEN
