Charley2
Charley
Nearly 2 years old and in foster care for a year now, this happy, sweet mixed breed really wants a forever family.  Charley is receiving some basic obedience training from a local trainer who is volunteering some of her expertise and  time to our dogs.  He is loving the extra attention and showing good attentiveness and response to training efforts.  Charley won't fit under your Christmas tree, but he will lay on his back for belly rubs!  With continued training and the TLC that only a permanent home can provide, Charley will make a great companion.

Please call Tracey at 610-2773  if interested.

P.S. Nothing "husky" about Charley...foster mom just couldn't say "no"when he was facing euthanasia due to shelter overcrowding when not even 1 year old!
If you are interested in adopting any of our available companions, please review our Adoption Process and complete our Adoption Application.
This sweet and timid 3 year old was found by Valencia County Animal Control protecting her litter of 8 in a den that she built along an irrigation ditch.  After her pups were sent to Colorado for adoption, Ava was scheduled for euthanasia because she was so fearful of people (but never aggressive).  We took Ava and upon vet exam learned that she had a dangerously high temperature due to mastitis (mammary gland infection).  Ava is now healthy and happy and ready for her new and permanent home.  Ava is still slow to trust, so needs to go to a home where her need for continued reassurance that people are OK will be respected.  Ava is housetrained and good with other dogs.

She would probably do best with a mature couple or family where someone is around and chaos and commotion are minimal.

Ava is a wonderful and special girl....she protected and raised her pups when she herself was critically ill...only a special and wonderful home will do for Ava.  If you might be that home, please call Tracey at 610-2773

Kira is a beautiful brown eyed, black & white female husky that also came from an abusive situation in Texas. She was one of 24 dogs seized during an illegal breeding and dog abuse case and is now looking for a forever home that will take care of her and lover her the way that she deserves. She is now spayed, about 7 yrs old and current on all of her shots. She does well around other dogs and like many of the dogs that come out of abusive situations, is a little shy and untrusting of humans, but is really warming up to people and would love to find her new home in time for the holidays!

Please call Steve at 264-2514 for more information about Kira.

This incredibly sweet, submissive and eager to please 3 y.o. husky cross loves people of all ages and other dogs. He has even co-habitated with cats!  Luka is house-trained and he has excellent house manners. He has had some training with a local professional and he knows basic commands.  Luka readily respects a 5 foot fence, showing no interest in escaping by jumping, climbing or digging. Luka does enjoy an occasional "howl".

Luka needs an active family who will respect his desire to be an indoor/outside dog and who will afford him lots of human and canine companionship. Through no fault of his own, Luka has had several homes in his short life.  Luka's foster mom (Tracey, Husky Rescue V.P.) knows him well and will conduct strict screening beyond the basic requirements of Husky Rescue.

If interested, please submit an adoption application to Tracey @ traceykub@gmail.com.  No phonecalls, please, without first submitting an application to adopt.

Kita is also between 1 and 2 years old, and like Kuma, seems to get along well with other dogs. Kita needs someone that can also take her out on walks or runs, as with most young huskies, she needs consistent exercise to keep her “occupied.” Kita is already spayed, current on all her shots, and is a very nice grey &white husky. Kita would do best in a household with no cats or small dogs and loves to hang out with humans. Although she has probably been an outdoor dog much of her short life, she also seems to pick up training quickly.

Please call Steve at 264-2514 or email him for more information about Kita.

Kuma is probably between 1 and 2 years old, seems to get along well with other dogs, and looks to be a brother to Kita. Kuma needs someone that can take him out on walks or runs, as with most young huskies, he needs to get consistent exercise to keep him “occupied.” Kuma is neutered, current on all his shots, and is a very nice grey &white fellow. Kuma would do best in a household with no cats or small dogs. Although he has probably been an outdoor dog much of his short life, he seems to learn quickly and has already learned to sit on command!

Keiko:  This 7 y.o. "mellow fellow" needs a new home due to changes in family circumstances.  He has lived with a mature couple and their small male terrier mix for the past 3 years.  He was previously with the couple's daughter from 8 weeks of age.  Keiko has been well cared for and he appears to be an "easy keeper".  He is neutered and current on vaccinations. Although house trained at one time, Keiko may need some assistance in this area since he has lived mostly outdoors for the past several years.  Keiko has not been around small children or cats; he does well with a female chihuahua that visits the home.

If interested in Keiko, call Tracey at 505-610-2773

Pancho:  This 2 y.o., friendly and playful jack russell terrier needs a new home.  Pancho is house trained, neutered, current on vaccinations and heartworm preventative and microchipped.

Pancho loves people and female canine companions. He needs a home without cats and he has no history with children.  Pancho has jumped a 4 foot wall, so fence height of 5-6 feet will be necessary. If interested in Pancho, call Tracey at 610-2773.

Rain:  Rain is a beautiful girl who was found in the northeast desert of El Paso by a big-hearted El Pasoan and turned over to us for rehoming. Her rescuer tells us that she would do nothing but drink water for days, and would not get up because her paws were so burned by the hot desert sand. Her new name comes from her clear blue eyes that look like pools of precious rainwater.  She looks very much like a wolf, as her muzzle is longer than the typical Husky and she has beautiful Collie-like feathering on her legs and a very Collie-like tail. Even though the coat on her back is a bit burnt from the desert sun and she still needs to put on more weight, she is clearly going to be a stunning dog. She is a little shy at first but quickly becomes extremely affectionate with people and clearly has a tendency to want to be a lap dog -- a very big lap dog!  She is also shy and a bit defensive when she first meets other dogs, possibly because she was lost in the desert for a while and had to defend herself. Similarly she is uncertain about cats. She has been caught kissing the housecats in her foster home, but she will also chase them if they run and should probably not be entirely trusted with them without supervision.

She is young and still very puppyish even though she is a big girl, and she loves to play with other dogs once she understands that they are friendly. Her current best buddy is Skipper the sheltie. :-) She will go over stone walls (even at 5 feet) if she is bored, so she will need an especially secure yard.  Rain will benefit from a human who will give her the training she needs, but her love of running would make her a fabulous companion for an athletic human who shares her love of action!

If you are interested in Rain, contact Dory at dmunder1@elp.rr.com.
